Your tour will include some of the following stops; Van Houtte Coffee Shop. Québec’s answer to Starbucks, the Europe-like Van Houtte coffees have been an institution in Québec for the past 22 years. Your guide will tell you about how the saga began and about the legacy of the Van Houtte name on the Quebec economy and diet. Indeed, Van Houtte is more than a name; it’s an institution that left a lasting mark on Quebecers’ first encounters with this hot beverage called coffee.
Your next stop will be the St Viateur Bagel Factory, where you will learn all about this savoury pastry that originated in Montreal. As you travel north along St Laurent Boulevard, you will travel through ethnic districts such as the Greek and Portugal Village to learn about the diversity of Multicultural Montréal and these communities have added diversity to the culinary landscape of the metropolis.
The Jean Talon Market – one of the temples of foods in Montréal, where you will have the opportunity to meet with some of the local stand owners and taste some of their products. Coming back downtown, you will continue to explore Montréal’s cultural gastronomy as you go through Outremont and the Jewish district (for a tasting of the famous Montréal Smoked Meat Sandwiches) the Portuguese Village, Duluth and Prince Arthur Streets (Greek restaurants with Bring Your Own Wine policies), and finally Chinatown.
From Chinatown, you will pursue your culinary travels by a visit to Old Montréal. As you walk through the cobblestone streets and famous landmark monuments your guide will explain what a Sugar Shack is and why Quebeckers make it a traditional pilgrimage to visit one at least once a year in Spring time!
From Old Montréal, you will travel to the Francophone district. Here you will find restaurants offering poutine (a decadent concoction of crispy French fries smothered in gravy and topped with cheese curds - hands down Quebeckers’s favourite junk food).
After a full day of sightseeing your driver will return you to your hotel, located in historic Old Montreal.
This evening will be one to remember! Our driver and guide will meet you at the hotel for a 20-minute drive to a seaplane dock on the Riviere Des Prairies. Your pilot will be ready for a scenic 25-minute flight over the Laurentian Mountains to Lac Masson and a classic countryside Quebec township. The staff from Bistro a Champlain will be waiting to escort you to the restaurant, across the street from the lake.
We have included dinner at the charming and critically acclaimed Bistro. The old General Store (1864) overlooking Lake Masson has become, a century later, the repository of one of the most sophisticated wine cellars.
Inspired by his love of fine wine and haute cuisine, Champlain Charest bought the old store in 1974 with his friend, the famous Canadian painter Jean-Paul Riopelle. Together, they reshaped the location into the perfect nest to share with others their epicurean passion.
They created a most refined decor with artworks of international masters such as Miro, Sam Francis, Joan Mitchell, Jean-Paul Riopelle, sharing a space with renowned Quebec artists like Louis Gosselin & Louise Prescott.
Champlain, who gave his name to this very modestly called Bistro finds his dearest pride in his wine cellar. Hence, the Bistro will enable you to savour the best wines (40, 000 bottles) spirits and cigars.
After finishing a superb meal with wines in this charming Bistro you will relax in the back of your sedan on your return to your hotel in Montreal.
