Day 1 – Vancouver / Ganges on Salt Spring Island

Upon arrival at Vancouver Airport, you will be greeted by your driver and transferred by private sedan to the seaplane terminal for your private charter flight aboard a Cessna seaplane to Salt Spring Island. In less than one hour you will arrive at Ganges Harbour on Salt Spring Island, where a representative from Hastings House will be there to greet you and transfer you to the inn.

You will spend the next three nights at Hastings House, located in a uniquely pastoral setting. Its casual elegance, fine cuisine and ideal location in the beautiful Gulf Islands make Hastings House one of the most romantic destinations in British Columbia. Its 11th-century Sussex-style Manor House will take you back to an atmosphere of simplicity and classic finery, providing the perfect setting for afternoon tea or pre-dinner cocktails.

The twenty-five acre seaside estate features five tastefully restored cottages and two newly constructed buildings amid gardens and fruit trees. You will stay in the Post Cottage, a deluxe two-room garden cottage, and a favourite with honeymooners due to its privacy. French doors open to spacious lawns and ocean view, with a wood burning stove, deep soaking tub and queen-sized bedroom.

Tonight we recommend that you dine at the inn. Hastings House’s excellent cuisine can be credited to European trained Executive Chef Marcel Kauer and to his selection of the freshest seafood, produce and game available. Cocktails are served in the living room before dinner, and on the patio in fine weather. Enjoy intimate fireside dining, casual dining in the Verandah next to the living room, or for special occasions, the Manor dining room. The wine list features notable British Columbia wines, as well as fine selections from around the world.

Days 2 – Sea Kayaking

This morning you will awake to find a hamper basket with steaming coffee or tea and freshly baked muffins delivered to your door. Then enjoy a full English breakfast in the Dining Room.

Following breakfast, you will take a short stroll into the little town of Ganges, to the harbour, where you will explore the beauty of the island from the water. Salt Spring Island is a paddler's paradise. Mild climate, sheltered waters and easy access make this one of the most desirable paddling and sailing destinations in Canada. Enjoy a 3-hour private kayaking tour. After meeting with your private guide and receiving some instruction, you will paddle with your guide along the chain of islands in Ganges Harbour to the beautiful shell covered Chocolate Beach on Third Sister Island. Here you will take a short hike on to a beautiful lookout. Enjoy the fascination of the intertidal marine life and the beautiful sandstone rock formation and interesting bird life. Kayakers often view marine life such as seals, sea lions, porpoise, and otters or view an abundance of unique sea birds like great blue herons, eagles, oyster catchers, swans, harlequin ducks, and more, right from your kayak. Included in your half day excursion is a picnic lunch.

The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure or you may decide to indulge in a spa treatment before dinner.

Day 3 – Salt Spring Island at Leisure

You have the full day to enjoy the numerous natural and cultural activities on Salt Spring Island. There is a lot to explore and discover on the island. Visit the charming town of Ganges (population 5,000), only a 10-15 minute walk away from the inn, full of artisans, craftspeople, quaint shops, giftshops, art galleries and beautiful harbor views. Visit local beaches or go on an afternoon hike. There are dozens of hiking trails to choose from, ranging in the level of challenges. You may decide to rent a car for the day to explore Salt Spring. It takes approximately two hours to drive the perimeter of this small island, and you can take a self-guided art gallery tour to visit the 36 artists’ galleries throughout the island and in Ganges, many in their own quaint homes!

Day 4 – Salt Spring Island / Tofino

Following your breakfast, you will be transferred by hotel shuttle from the inn to Ganges Harbour, where you will board your private charter Cessna seaplane. Sit back and enjoy the views as you fly over the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island to Tofino, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Upon arrival in Tofino, you will be greeted by a representative of the Wickaninnish Inn, and transferred by hotel shuttle to the inn.

You will spend the next two nights at the dazzling Wickaninnish Inn. Situated on a rocky promontory at the western most point of Chesterman Beach, the inn is surrounded by the ocean on three sides and has an old growth forest as a backdrop. Your 3rd floor Deluxe Room will provide you with the ultimate West Coast experience! Your needs have been anticipated to the last comfortable detail. Amenities include down duvets, thick terry bath robes, aromatherapy bath products, private bar, a CD clock radio. Experience the ever-changing mood of the ocean, relax by your fireplace and watch nature unfold outside your window. A bath in the oversized soaker tub, enhanced by aromatherapy bath salts, conjures up an air of luxury of a bygone era.

We highly recommend making time for a treatment at the Inn’s famous Ancient Cedars Spa before dinner. Day 5 – Hot Springs Explorer Tour

Tofino is famous for its spectacular wilderness and wildlife viewing opportunities. Today you will spend the day on a Hot Springs Explorer tour. This educational tour will take you through the pristine waters of Clayoquot Sound, revealing sensational scenery and wildlife such as Gray whales, sea lions, seals, porpoise and sometimes killer and humpback whales. This area is also known for its variety of sea birds, including tufted puffins, and the numbers of resident bald eagles.

You will first travel 20 miles to the north end of Clayoquot Sound by Zodiac to a series of thermal rock pools. Marine stops may include a sea cave, black bear viewing, an eagle's nest and a seabird-nesting island. While on shore, you will follow a trail through ancient forest cathedrals of one hundred year old cedars to the geo-thermal pools of Hot Springs Cove. There, you will relax while soaking in the natural sulphur hot springs (about 110F) overlooking the ocean. Afterwards, you head out to sea in search of whales and other marine life. This area is renowned for the thousands of Grey Whales that migrate along the shores of this part of Vancouver Island.

This morning you will be transferred by hotel shuttle from the Wickaninnish Inn to your private seaplane. Sit back and relax on your charter Cessna flight, which will land in Victoria’s picturesque inner Harbour. Here you will be met by your driver guide and taken on a leisurely drive from downtown Victoria, through the countryside, to the site of the renowned Butchart Gardens. This 50-acre horticultural showplace is truly one of the finest displays in the world. Admission to Butchart Gardens has been included in your tour.

Stroll through the Sunken Garden featuring the magnificent Ross Fountain, pause to absorb the fragrance and beauty of the charming English Rose Garden, then move on through the Japanese Garden, the Italian Garden and the Show Greenhouse. Browse through the gift shop and take your time exploring at your own pace.

Rejoin your driver and continue your tour of downtown Victoria with the shops, Antique Row and Chinatown. Take a stroll through the gardens at Government House. Visit the quaint streets of Oak Bay and then return by way of scenic Marine Drive past an authentic tudor seaside hotel, Victoria's premier golf course and Beacon Hill Park. Upon completion of your tour, your driver will drop you off at the Fairmont Empress Hotel where you will enjoy the famous tradition of High Tea in the Tea Lobby. Afternoon Tea has been a tradition at The Empress since 1908. It begins with an offering of assorted sandwiches, home made scones with jam and jersey cream, a variety of pastries, seasonal berries, and of course Empress Blend Tea.

Following High Tea, your driver will be waiting outside the Fairmont Empress Hotel to take you on a scenic drive to the Aerie Resort. The Aerie is nestled high up in the mountains amidst the natural habitat of bald eagles, yet no more than 30 minutes from the bustling city of Victoria. Surrounded by ten acres of meticulously kept grounds and gardens, the breath-taking view from The Aerie is worth the trip alone. The Inn definitively deserves its nickname of “Castle in the Mountains”.

You will spend the next two nights in a Eagle View Suite. Each one of the 29 rooms and suites offers European down duvets, terry cloth bathrobes, TV, CD/Cassette player, air-conditioning, mini bar, telephone with direct access lines and data port.

Day 7 – Aerie Resort at Leisure

Your west coast vacation has come to an end. This morning you will be transferred by private sedan to the Victoria seaplane terminal, where you will take a short flight back to Vancouver in your private charter Cessna seaplane. Upon arrival in Vancouver your driver will be waiting for you to drive you by private sedan to Vancouver International Airport for your flight home. Have a safe trip!
